Oslo Pix is proud to present Thelma, the latest feature film from leading Norwegian director Joachim Trier.
Thelma is a romantic supernatural thriller, about a young woman who falls in love and discovers that she possesses mystical and frightening super powers.
Having moved away from her religious family in Western Norway to attend university studies in Oslo, Thelma suffers from a sudden, violent seizure on campus, but does not tell her parents. Meanwhile she finds herself attracted to Anja, a fellow student. Overwhelmed by feelings she dear not acknowledge, she continues to suffer inexplicable seizures. And then one day, Anja disappears without a trace…
Joachim Trier (b. 1974) has previously directed three acclaimed feature films, all of which have screened at the Cannes Film Festival. With Thelma, Trier enters new and exciting genre territory. Still, he once again demonstrates his capacity for visual storytelling, and for drawing complex portraits of characters rooted in specific environments. The film also reunites him with Oslo, his native city which he has portrayed vividly in his first and second features Reprise and Oslo, August 31st.
Thelma stars Eili Harboe, known from films such as The Wave and The Orheim Company, and Kaya Wilkins aka the artist Okay Kaya.
Joachim Trier will present the film and take part in a Q/A session after the screening.
Oslo Pix is a new international film festival in Oslo, dedicated to the best of European and North American arthouse cinema. Its next edition is held 4-10 June 2018. The screening is a collaboration with the Norwegian distributor SF Studios and the production company Motlys AS.
